Counseling has worked wonders for me. I learned simple exersises to do to calm myself, and I learned the mechanics of the mind that cause anxiety and panic attacks. I've never had counseling for anything before, and when my doc suggested it I kinda hesitated, but it has turned out to be a good experience for me.
Your Counselor will listen to your explanation of your problems and symptoms and then will ask you some questions. Based on your answers, he/she will be able to give you a course of action. It is really very easy and nothing to worry about.
My Counselor had me at ease in 2 minutes and I couldn't wait to go back the following week.
Good luck and take care.
anniejay: after needing 18 months of counselling for the loss of my mum i would promote counselling 100%. i dont think it will help your anxiety directly (of which i still suffer badly from as well as stress) but just the fact that your getting things "off your chest" and out of your head will help in the long run....just be prepared to be asked perhaps some "delving" questions...and try to find a counselor that is charity run...and wont charge you a fortune.
i will say two words that i think will help you...."spiritual healing"...or reiki (spelling)....i wasnt so open to the idea at first..but someone advised me to see one...even my doctor said try it...a year later, whether it really is reiki or just time helping me with my anxiety...something has really helped...perhaps try it...
hope ive helped...[:I]
