I was on them for three weeks. The full effects didn't take place until I took them for a couple of weeks. Don't be scared at this point. They might be very good for you in your situation. Seeing a doctor regularly as you get used to them is a good idea.
Being sleepy is very usual. I felt that myself, but I had enjoyed that initial calm zone when I started because I was so starved of sleep by that point. But what might be a calm zone for me might be very different for you.
Only you know how you feel on mirtazapine, and if it is right for you or not. Give it a go, but if it's not doing you any good in a few weeks, come off it again. I did, it wasn't the nicest experience but because I only took it for 21 days it wasn't too bad to ease off them. Uncomfortable, but manageable with some valium for the really bad moments (usually just anxiety spikes that wouldn't respond to CBT and relaxation). It was worth a try at any rate.
