Personally for me, some Ludovico Einaudi (example) or maybe some Andy Mckee (example).
The effect of music is quite dramatic, I'm a driver and the driving style varies widly depending on the music I'm listening to (or have listened to within the past few hours).
And I think it was Dr Masaru Emoto who studied the effects of music on water which is pretty interesting, especially when you consider we're mostly water!
The Annual Chillout Session 2002 is a favorite of mine. Especially the 2nd disc.
In the states if you have satellite radio...XM Chill and Spa are nice relaxing ambient stations. Also there are several great Ambient stations on internet radio too. I usually listen to those in the evening and while I sleep.
Morcheeba - The Sea
Smile - Lily Allen (this has swearing in it, sorry)
Even in the Quitest Moments - Supertramp
The River - Groove Armada

trance music only if u removed the beats...quite uplifting stuff....i like trance anyway though.
I've never really found many songs that calmed me down, I've tried upbeat dance songs and they just didn't really help, and obviously slower more sad songs won't help either.
Tonight I turned on the radio because of another thread I'd seen about listening to the radio to help you sleep. Now I wasn't trying to sleep but my anxiety was really bad..I was willing to try anything.
This song came on, and to begin with it annoyed me, I don't know why, but as it neared the end I started to love it. Don't ask why, because I have no idea.
Anyway, the song is High by James Blunt.
I am not joking when I say that this has been on repeat for nearly 3 hours to keep me relatively calm.
Cirrus Minor, an early track by Pink Floyd;

Weightless by Marconi Union works really well for me. Supposed to be the most relaxing song ever. It slows your breathing and reduces brain activity
I fell asleep whilst listening to it!
