Re: citalopram Vs mirtazipine
Hi Nicola, as you know I've recently started mirt, which tappering off paroxetine (Seroxat). Paroxetine had previously worked really well for me in the past, but sadly not this time.
So far, whilst tappering (15mg of each in the evening) I haven't had any of the adverse side effects associated with SSRI's, in fact it's really helped as I am sleeping really well now and the daily vomitting stopped straight away.
The first night I took it I was asleep within half and hour, but it's now anything up to about 90mins before I'm fast asleep, the tiredness does apparently lessen with an increase in dose but I haven't changed my dose as yet so don't know.
I do get a bit hungry after taking it so tend to take a little snack to bed (but having lost so much weight on paroxetine I don't mind if I put a few pounds back on). I certainly haven't had the hunger that others have mentioned, but still taking the paroxetine could be the reason for this.
I'm seeing my GP on Monday so will no doubt have my doses changed (something I always fear), but if I was going to experience any awful side effects I would have expected these to have been apparent by now.
Oddly, one thing the paroxetine has caused this time (but has always eradicated in the past) is depersonalisation. It's more severe in the morning so I'm really hoping that once the paroxetine is lowered, the depersonalisation will lessen.
Are you cross tappering or stopping cit before starting mirt? It would probably be best to reduce the cit slowly so you don't suffer too much with withdrawal.
