His suggestion was to up my promazine. I gasped and asked "Are you sure? It already makes me sleepy I don't want to be a zombie I want to be productive". He said it will pass. I'm a bit worried about the existing side effects of promazine and I don't want to take more where I can potentially develop heart problems and other things.
Basically got to make 10mg 4 times a day. So 40mg a day. It was 20mg before. And after 2 weeks he wants to up me more!
Does the doctor know best? Is it my anxiety talking me out of this? I'm so confused.
If your thoughts are racing then increasing the promazine dose is a reasonable response, James.
The usual dose range for agitation is 10-200mg every 4-6 hours with a daily maximum of 1,000mg so 40mg is at the low end. Meds like promazine which sedate mostly by blocking the histamine receptors tend to become less sedating as the dose increases, however, there probably won't be much change from going from 20mg to 40mg and there may be a short-term increase in sleepiness.
Getting an opinion from psychiatry might not be a bad idea and explain the effect the promazine is having on your work. Another less sedating antipsychotic may be a better option.
