wake from sleep unable to exhale!!!

    Hi everyone

I have a new worry.....number 1,536,242. This is very hard to explain, but please bare with me. I was asleep last night and I suddenly awoke, the first thing i can remember is me trying to clear my throat. As i came around a little more is felt as though i was trying to unblock my throat so i could exhale. It REALLY felt as though my throat had close. I was so scared, my heart rate went mad. I must admit that i have been focusing on my throat recently, it appears to be my "new problem area" but this was so scary.

About 2 years ago i had a very similar experience but on that occasion I awoke to a feeling of not being able to exhale and managed to cough my throat open. I drifted off to sleep again and didn't give it much more thouht - my heart was my major worry at that time[:I]

I have been surfing the net ( before you all say it, I know, I know - bad move) and the only thing i can come up with is something called Sleep Apnoea, but this only occurs in people that snore excessivley. My partner has never mentioned to me that i snore and i am not overwieght which is also another cause of this " sleep apnoea"

I'm really scared i'm going to stop breathing and die in my sleep. I have a little boy, I want to see him grow up!!!!!![V]

Has anoybody else experienced anything like this, it's not a panic attack, it really feels as though my throat has closed. If it's really bad news, please be gentle with me....:( - perhaps Meg knows what it is... is it serious?

    Thanks everyone[V]

My throat is always worse in the morning as well. Sometimes I get up and gag a bit until I can clear my throat. It helps to have a drink by the bedside so I can sip on that when I first wake up.

I too was worried about sleep apnoea but I am overweight so it was more likely for me than you, but I don't think I have that either.

Not sure if that helps atall but you are not alone.
