    physical symptoms of anxiety

I've been suffering from panic attacks and general anxiety since last Sept. The panic attacks seem to be under control now but the anxiety is still cronic. I find that the physical symptoms are particularly unbearable because when they are always there....it's like a constant reminder that you are anxious! The worst are the heart palps and the throat restriction and fainting feelings. The throat restriction is the one I find the hardest as there seems to be very little a person can do to relieve it....especially at night when trying to sleep...hence why I'm posting so late! Just wondering if anyone as any tips to ease these feelings? Any advice greatfully received!!

    hi,

im sorry to hear about your symptoms. They're horrible arent they? I get heart palps, bowel trouble and throat trouble. Before I thought I was just always ill - but now I know I'm just slightly mental

I would suggest you try to relax more. I find a really good run takes my mind off the symptoms or maybe reading a good book? Try anything that will distract your mind from feeling anxious. I know its not always easy but your in the right place here and im sure you'll get loads of advice pouring in soon...

I wish you all the best (and a good nights sleep)

    Hi Maura

Boy do I know how you are feeling - I have had two restless nights - not nice I can tell you (we suffer enough through the day without suffering at night as well)!!!

Anyway I found this tranquility tea from the health food shop (Holland and Barret I think!) its a bit of an aquired taste but it does seem to help also have you tried any meditation cds? They are good also - oh and yoga! We all these ideas we have got to get some relief arnt we?!!!?

Hope you get some relief soon hun

    Hi Maura

These symptoms are annoying but do resolve as you start to get in control of the anxiety. Self-help or professional CBT would help you make changes and daily relaxation is very important too.

Thanks guys for replying. I'm already doing what most of ye suggest, yoga, camollie tea, relaxation cds, tai chi, meditation etc etc and yes it all helps. I know all symptoms of anxiety are harmless and usually pass but it's just such a pain! I think my biggest problem is to stop thinking about it so much....I keep giving it power by doing this. Have all the knowledge just lacking the strength to put it into practice!

Oh yes, been there, but you know what helped me with htis throat restriction was to sing, well catawall really 'cos I can not sing!. But it helped to relax my throat and made me laugh as I sounded so stupid, give it a go, it will also help you to relax, I still sing when I am in the car and the creeping feelings begin to happen.

there's a place that I dream of when I sleep, so peaceful, so quite, I call it mother earth.
